Term 1 Cricket - Junior Group Sessions

About

Clutch group sessions return to term 1 with more net games and challenges than ever! The term 1 programme focuses on approaching a range of game situations to develop cricketers with the skills and knowledge to be successful during the season. We aim to provide at least 1 coach per lane being used - with a ratio of 5-7 cricketers to each coach.

Purpose

Term 1's 8 week course is designed to prepare your young cricketer for their weekly Saturday match - and beyond. Cricketers in this programme benefit from weekly trainings with other motivated cricketers while under the guidance of our qualified coaches.

Suitability

These programmes are designed for hard ball cricketers year 5 -year 8 (9-13 years of age). If you child is year 4 and is ready to train with hard ball cricketers they can be considered for the programme. At each session mini groups will be formed based on ability to ensure all cricketers are training at a level suitable for them.

Term 1 - What to expect

Term 1 focuses on mini games and challenges in the nets - with each week bringing a new focus.

Week 1: Dust off the cobwebs

Everyone has a good opportunity to bat and bowl in the nets,        getting back into the groove of cricket.

​

Week 2: Straight drives (Batting)

Developing an effective technique for playing straight

​

Week 3: Patient channels (Bowling)

Why bowling a 4th/5th stump line is so effective

​

Week 4: Back foot field manipulation (Batting)

Develop an ability to work the ball around off the back foot

​

Week 5: Finding a good length (Bowling)

Bowling areas that challenge a batter's footwork

​

Week 6: Playing spin bowling (Batting)

Develop a strategy to successfully play against quality spin bowling

​

Week 7: Death bowling (Bowling)

Bowling in the final overs when the game is on the line

​

Week 8: Power hitting (Batting)

Making the most of the final overs of the game while batting

​

Location: St Paul's Collegiate Indoor Cricket Nets

Day: Mondays

Time: 6.00pm -7.30pm

Begins: Monday 3rd of February (Week 1)

Ends: Monday 24th of March (Week 8)

Session 2 (Spaces still available)

Location: Waikato University Indoor Cricket Nets

Day: Fridays

Time: 5.00pm - 6.30pm

Begins: Friday 7th of February (Week 1)

Ends: Friday 28th of March (Week 8)

Please note: Due to the extra lane at the Waikato University indoor nets, session 2 has more spaces available. Session 1 may fill up quickly. Priority is given on a first come first served basis.​
